I’m Mel Koller, and my career has always been about more than financial growth—it's about growing communities, fostering meaningful relationships, and supporting the people who drive our nation's prosperity. As President and CEO of AFC, I lead with a focus on people, not just numbers. Whether working with farmers, board members, or employees, my mission is clear: to create opportunities that benefit everyone.
When I arrived in Alabama in 2018, I embraced a new market with determination and a clear vision. But these milestones are not just about metrics, they reflect the positive impact we’re making on the families, businesses, and communities we serve.
My journey has taken me across various states and industries, from California’s almond orchards and vineyards to large-scale agribusiness lending in Texas. Along the way, I’ve learned the value of hard work, collaboration, and innovation. These lessons shape how I lead today, by bringing people together to solve challenges, think creatively, and build a sustainable future for agriculture.
At AFC, I prioritize more than strategic planning and financial performance; I’m committed to cultivating a culture of teamwork, growth, and leadership development. Leading by example, I stay connected with every part of our organization and work to create pathways for the next generation of leaders. For me, every loan, handshake, and conversation is an opportunity to empower someone to achieve their goals.
Growing up with roots in agriculture, I saw firsthand the dedication it takes to work the land. That respect fuels my passion for understanding the needs of farmers and their communities. Whether through innovative lending strategies or partnerships that make a tangible difference, I strive to support the people who sustain us all.
Outside of work, you’ll often find me connecting with the land I love, mentoring young professionals, or spending time with the people who inspire me daily. I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished at AFC, but I’m even more excited about the road ahead. Together, we’re building more than an organization, we’re building a legacy for future generations of farmers, businesses, and communities.
